We will also be singing at several of the 6pm Saturday masses during the year (see calendar for details).
During 6pm Mass, the choir led the singing of two traditional May hymns, Bring flowers of the rarest and Hail Queen of Heaven, Ocean Star. At the Offertory and Communion, we sang Dona Nobis Pacem (one of our warm ups!), in a round and the Mozart Ave Verum.
After Mass we got the concert underway, with Geantrai, by Michael McGlynn. This fast paced song, in Irish, set the tone nicely for the evening. This was followed by John Rutter’s, A Clare Benediction then Howard Goodhall’s, The Lord is my Shepherd. To finish the choir’s first section, we performed a very lively arrangement of The Rhythm of Life, from the musical Sweet Charity.
Aine and KitKat then gave a performance of Delibe’s beautiful Flower Duet, followed by a sassy rendition of Summertime, from Porgy and Bess, by KitKat.
The choir then joined for another section, opening with Faure’s Cantique de Jean
“Donations” were extorted from the audience as they tried to escape, for the Buddies of the Birches school, with in excess of £350 being raised on the night. So a very big Thank You to everyone who came along to listen to the choir and support the
The choir gave an encore of Rhythm of Life before the audience left, having enjoyed a great evening’s entertainment.
Christmas Concert, Saturday 12th December 2009
The choir sang carols and provided musical accompaniment to the liturgy during 6pm Mass. After mass the choir gave a Christmas concert in aid of Marie Curie. The programme was a mixture of tradtitional carols, some secular items and solo items from members of the choir and guests from The Halle Choir.
Party in the Park, July 2009
The weather gods were in a good mood for the annual Party in the Park event at St John's Primary School. The audience listened to a varied programme of items provided by pupils and parents of the school. Glor sang three items from our repertoire; P is for Paddy, Down in the river to pray and Spancil Hill. Three hundred or so pupils, performers and their families enjoyed a wonderful evening of entertainment, picnicing in the summer sun.
